GIS, Alcohol Outlet Density, And . . .
Geographic information systems (GIS) can be a powerful tool for community change.
This workshop will briefly introduce participants to the Syracuse Alcohol Environment Project, a collaborative GIS project in Upstate New York which was begun with a minimal budget and little GIS expertise. The workshop will offer:
(1) A brief, user-friendly introduction to GIS for alcohol and alcohol problems.
(2) A non-technical overview of the latest research regarding alcohol outlet density and its impact on individuals and communities.
(3) Discussion on ways to utilize GIS to leverage community policy change, with an eye toward policy sustainability.
