GOT COURTS?
The judiciary is a relatively new but increasingly enthusiastic and effective partner in several types of alcohol problem prevention and intervention projects. A dynamic panel of court representatives will describe several court-community partnership initiatives to reduce the risks to individuals, families, and communities resulting from the harmful use of alcohol. Accountability, restitution, and rehabilitation can go hand-in-hand to create a synergistic effort in communities. Such projects can take place in communities of any size and often can be developed with existing resources, although increasingly grant funds can be tapped. The initiatives described will include community courts, juvenile drug courts, DUI courts, and child protection drug courts. Tips for engaging the judiciary will be discussed, possible grant resources will be identified, and outcomes from some sample projects will be shared. Come learn how to partner with the judiciary in your community to add leverage to your community prevention and intervention efforts.
