Lynn Hightower Biography
Lynn has been the Communications Director and Public Information Officer for the Boise Police Department since October, 2003. Lynn also serves at the PIO for the Boise Fire Department. She manages multiple media requests for information and interviews daily. Lynn often acts as public spokesperson for the police department, and advises officers from patrol to Command Staff on effective media and communications strategies.
Lynn is a certified as a media relations and communications instructor from the Idaho POST Academy. She regularly instructs new officers at the Boise Police Academy. Lynn has also given media relations, social networking and communications instruction to dozens of federal, state and local emergency responder agencies throughout the country. She’s been an instructor/presenter for the International Association of Chief’s of Police (IACP) on a variety of law enforcement public communications topics, and an instructor for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on traffic safety communication.
The BPD Communications Office issues news releases, produces public education videos posted on the departments web and social network sites, video news releases, authors the department’s official Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages, in addition to the agency’s web site, www.boisepolice.org. The PIO office also manages the BPD Speakers Bureau and has developed public service announcement and commercial advertisements for officer recruitment and public safety campaigns.
Lynn joined the Boise Police Department in 2003 after 17 years in TV news. As a television reporter, producer, anchor and news director, Lynn earned numerous state and regional awards including an Emmy nomination for investigative reporting.
Lynn and her husband Don, a Captain with the Boise Fire Department, most enjoy spending time in Idaho’s outdoors with their two sons, Nick 21, and Jared, 18, and 15 year old daughter Sydney, their horses and their dog, Buddy.
