Terry Derden Biography
Terry R. Derden is one of seven Assistant City Attorneys assigned to the Public Safety Division within the Boise City Attorney's Office. His tenure as an Assistant City Attorney began in June 2004. As a prosecutor, he has prosecuted a multitude of crimes and has sat as first chair on twenty-three jury trials and handled hundreds of bench trials. Terry, along with his fellow teammates, prosecutes crimes that occur in the cities of Boise and Meridian, as well as felony conflict crimes that occur in Ada County. On average, Terry carries a caseload of 200 active cases per month, in addition to his other duties in the office. In January 2008, Terry was designated the full-time Meridian Police Department Liaison/Legal Advisor. His service as the police liaison means that he provides legal advice and training to Meridian Police officers on a myriad of issues and is available to them 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist with on-going criminal investigations and legal requests such as search warrants and legal advice for officers in the field. Terry is also assigned to the Police-Attorney Advice Team in the office, which is a team made up of senior attorneys who handle advising the Boise Police Department on a broad range of issues.
Before becoming a prosecutor, Terry graduated early from the University of Idaho, College of Law in Moscow, Idaho in December of 2004. Before law school, he attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana, where he graduated with honors in both Political Science and Sociology in 2002. Terry was raised in Boise and attended Bishop Kelly High School. His interests include snow skiing, camping, golfing and spending time with his wife, who owns an immigration law firm in Boise, as well as his two young sons.
