Friday, July 30th, 12:00 PM - A Statewide Campaign to Eliminate Underage Drinking in Utah

Parents Empowered: ParentsEmpowered.org:

Utah teens and many others say that parental disapproval is the number one reason they choose not to drink. New research shows that the effects of alcohol on the developing brain are far more detrimental than previously thought. For these reasons, the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and Utah Prevention started Utah's statewide media and community awareness campaign, ParentsEmpowered.org, funded by the Utah legislature. The goal of the campaign is to educate families and communities about the dangers and lifelong implications of underage drinking and provide them with the proven skills and resources to help significantly reduce the likelihood children will drink. The presentation focuses on the campaign’s strategic message, the growth and success of the program, the need for and role of law enforcement in the prevention effort, and the ongoing necessity for community entities to join the fight against underage drinking. The presentation will also include example videos and media materials currently in mass media use.
